Revolutionizing Performance Reviews and Feedback with AI: Our Journey with the Copilot AI Agent

As the Senior Vice President of Administration, I’ve witnessed countless innovations in people management throughout my career. And now, I’m particularly excited about our upcoming deployment of the Copilot AI Agent, which promises to transform how we approach annual reviews while reinforcing our core company values and supporting our vision of how we #eimaginebetter personally and professionally 

The Challenge: Balancing Complexity with Authenticity  

Traditional annual reviews have placed an overwhelming burden on our managers. They struggle to effectively synthesize multiple data streams – peer feedback, performance metrics, and value alignment – while ensuring each conversation remains personal and meaningful. With our upcoming review cycle approaching and our workforce continuing to expand, we knew we needed an innovative solution. 

Enter the Copilot AI Agent  

Our talented team has developed an innovative solution: a specialized AI assistant trained specifically on our company’s DNA. This isn’t just another generic HR tool; we’ve custom-built it to understand and embody our organization’s unique culture, mission, and core values. 

As we approached our review cycle, our development team has taken a meticulous approach to building the process. We have built the foundation by equipping the system with essential company materials, including our mission statement, strategic objectives, and documentation of our core values: Hungry, Humble, and Aware. This helps ensure the AI understands our culture, including the importance of self-improvement, embracing feedback, and supporting customers and colleagues. We have also included data related to our conversation frameworks and career development pathways to help guide potential areas of growth for team members. 

Preparing for Launch  

As we prepared for our initial rollout and ongoing incorporation, the Copilot AI Agent will function as an intelligent partner in the review process. We have already seen examples of streamlining the administrative burden by processing peer feedback and performance data, generating value-aligned discussion points, and offering situational guidance – all while maintaining our cultural authenticity. We strongly believe that as we implement this tool, the Copilot AI Agent will amplify, rather than replace, human insight. It’s designed to serve as a guide, not a directive, ensuring that crucial conversations and decisions remain where they belong – in the hands of our greatest asset- our people. 

Vision for the Future  

While we’re eager to see the results from our first review cycle using the system, we already see potential extending beyond reviews. From onboarding to career development, we’re exploring opportunities to scale our human-centric approach through technology. This initial implementation exemplifies our commitment to progress: using AI to handle data and process intensive tasks while creating space for deeper human connections. 

We’re proud of our internal tech team’s achievement and partnership and are excited about the future of human-centered AI in our organization. The review cycle will be our first real test, and we’re eager to see how this tool helps strengthen the conversations that drive both personal and organizational growth.
